Programs, Dates, and Locations
When Hessen State Minister for Higher Education, Research and the Arts, Mr. Udo Corts visited Louisiana to sign the landmark Hessen/Louisiana Agreement in April 2007, he presented UNO with two scholarships for the Hessen International Summer University. The ISU is a series of short-term, theme focused programs hosted at five universities in the German state of Hessen. Although each school has its own theme for ISU, the general structure is the same. Students are offered a German language course, as well as seminars to compliment the theme. Students are allowed to choose the seminars they will take within a specific module (depending on the school, students usually can pick two courses), and they earn three credit hours for each seminar and an additional three for the language course. The primary language of instruction for the seminars is English with some courses offered in German. Each ISU has a cultural component, incl. trips to other German cities, as well as social events that are designed to give ISU participants contact with German students.
